I am a HUGE fan of all things DIY! My theory is that everything means a little bit more if you made it yourself. I LOVE hand making Christmas and birthday gifts which I’m sure my family is incredibly tired of receiving.
So when it came time to be a mom I knew that I wanted to make all the fun things by hand! So today I decided to try my hand at making a sensory bottle (also called a calm down bottle). Every thing I read said you need a VOS water bottle but I didn’t have one so I decided to start from scratch and make a sensory bottle using what I already had in our home.
Since we don’t drink bottled water in our house we don’t have many bottles but I do drink body armor drinks like they’re going to save my life (any other breastfeeding or almost breastfeeding momma’s feel me?). So I grabbed an empty bottle to use. A lot of what I’d read said to use clear liquid hand soap and warm water for the sensory bottle so that’s what I did too. I put 3/4 cup warm water in the bottle, then some green craft glitter, craft foam letters in pink, some marbles (which you can’t see in the final product but our daughter loves the sound they make), and some little frog toys. I made sure none of the toys or items I put in where green because I didn’t want them to blend with the glitter.
Now the fun part…sealing the bottle. I messed this part up the first time. I knew it needed to be hot glued close so I thought “oh, I’ll put the glue on the threads of the lid and bottle then close the bottle”. That did not work. There was water and glitter all over the counter. So I had to rethink. I decided to put the hot glue in the top of the cap and then put the lid on. As well as around the outside where the cap screws down on the bottle and IT WORKED!!
Now our daughter has a cute bottle to watch when she needs a minute to collect herself because an 18 month old (and younger) can get just as overwhelmed as an adult. Let me know if you made one and how it went in the comments!
