Honey Beer Bread

on

I want to start by giving credit where credit is due. This is not my recipe. This is a recipe I found here: https://instagram.com/cottagefarmhouse?igshid=1jhwjawdnpazi if you follow the link you’ll be able to find it in her highlights. I will also post the recipe at the end of this post.

A few weeks ago I went to my parent’s house and my mom had made homemade bread. The house smelled heavenly and the bread was delicious so, of course, from the next morning on I was craving homemade bread. Unfortunately, packets of yeast are incredibly hard to find right now. So I was very surprised when I found this recipe that didn’t call for yeast!

For this bread you’ll need:

  • 3 cups of flour (I just used normal flour not bread flour but either will work)
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 12 ounces of beer (I used 805)
  • 1/4 cup of melted butter (I used salted but unsalted would work just fine)

I actually ended up having most of these items already in the house. All I was missing was the beer but I had my husband grab more of the other stuff that I was short on. I knew if I used the butter and honey we had we’d be out so I had him grab some more so now I can make more bread!

The directions are incredibly simple (so simple I thought I was messing it up) to follow!

  • Preheat oven to 375°
  • Mix the dry ingredients
  • Add honey to dry mixture
  • Add beer to mixture (mix thoroughly)
  • Pour into a greased pan (I used Pam cooking spray but you can also just rub butter along the sides and bottom of your pan.)
  • Pour melted butter on top
  • Bake for 1 hour (or until done) on the middle rack of your oven

This recipe doesn’t need a packet of yeast because it uses the yeast in the beer! In my opinion, the bread didn’t taste like the beer which was great! I don’t own a stand mixer so I just put the ingredients into a big bowl and used a plastic cooking spoon to mix. If you go this route make sure everything gets mixed very well, if you use a stand mixer with the bread attachment I suggest mixing it on low to medium for approximately 6 minutes. The outcome is delicious!

As promised here is the recipe that I followed (it’s a screenshot from Instagram)

Comment and let me know if you make it and if you like it! I can’t wait to see how many of you try this!
