Avoiding a Manic Monday

Oh, Mondays. I have a love-hate relationships with Mondays. I love them because it means the start of a new week and somewhat of a “fresh start”. I hate them because..we’ll who doesn’t hate them! Some time ago I decided I needed to become more organized and not have so many “manic Mondays”. With two kids under the age of two my days can get a little crazy. Usually we’re up by 7 am but if I don’t pay attention to the day before I know it it’s 3 pm and nothings been done. So, I decided one day that this needed to be changed and what better way to change it then with a list!

If you’ve been reading my blogs for any length of time you know how much I love lists! I make lists for EVERYTHING so when it came time to change our Mondays (and thus our weeks) a list was naturally the answer. I tired many different types and formats of lists but I think I’ve finally found one that works for me. I love pre done things, you know like lists divided into categories that you find online and can print and fill out. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find one that I loved so I made my own.

My “weekly schedule” (that’s what I’ve started calling it) is not fancy by ANY means but it works for me. It’s actually incredibly easy and simple! All I do is keep a spiral notebook on the kitchen counter (which my husband hates) and write down each day and date of that week then under that I list “lunch”, “dinner”, and finally “chore(s)”. Then I fill in each category. I also put an “X” through the days that we finish! For the “chores” I simply tackle one room in our home a day (or one section of our home a day). I also do laundry every day (if I run out of laundry half way through the week then I count it as a win hahaha!) and dishes every other day. If this is confusing, don’t worry, I’ll post a picture below of this weeks schedule. I make this schedule every Sunday so that once the week starts I am prepared.

For the most part, everything gets done on the day that the lists says it should but there are times when other things come up ( usually outside of our home) and the list doesn’t get done. If you know me personally then you know that days like this eat me alive. I hate not sticking to a plan (or a list). If you’re like me then you understand the emotions and feelings connected to not sticking to the plan. What I have learned, from the days that the list doesn’t get done, is simple; the list will be there tomorrow. I’ve had to learn to give myself grace on the days the list isn’t done. So, not only has the list provided a guide for the week that helps with the manic Monday’s but its taught me that life goes on even if you don’t follow the list.

As promised, here is my weekly schedule (ignore any spelling errors).

Do you have a weekly schedule or list you follow? Tell me all about it in the comments! I’m always looking for ways to improve my list, maybe yours can help me!

Much Love, R
