Well, it finally happened. Our baby turned 2!
Growing up, in my family, we did a birthday party for every birthday. My husband’s family did not. So, naturally, when it came time for our kids’ birthdays I said they should have parties every year and my husband said we should only have parties for the “big” birthdays (1,5,10,16,18, and 21). After the year we’ve had I decided to go with his idea. That meant our daughter wouldn’t be having a party this year.
We agreed that her birthday this year would be us, her grandparents, her aunts and uncles, her cousins, and her godparents. We’d all go out to eat at a restaurant and everyone would pay for their own families. That way would save us some money as well as prevent any clean up for us to do. Then Covid…that meant a restaurant wasn’t an option. So plan B was born. Same small invite list but at home and we’d serve the birthday girl’s favorite foods (mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, and fries)!!
If you know me, you know I’m a HUGE party planner! So, when I looked at the lack of decorations I knew that wasn’t going to work. I quickly started planning. I started with a theme. I searched Pinterest until I found “Two the Moon” (this saying is close to my husband because his mom used to say “ I love you to the moon and back” to him when he was younger). Once I started looking at ideas for decorations I realized this needed to evolve and become a space like theme.
Once I was fully committed to a space/moon theme I needed cheap decorations so my husband wouldn’t get mad since it “wasn’t supposed to be a party”! The first thing I did was get crepe streamers from the hall closet (I bought them years ago and had left overs) which cost me nothing. Then I took to Pinterest again! I found a super cute free printable solar system that I HAD to use! I also designed a cake topper and had my sister make it on her cricut (so once again that cost me nothing).
I decided to drape the streamers from our dinning room light to the corners of the room and hang the solar system from the same light. Also, my sister made her a shirt and the cakes were made by my husband and I. The food and cakes were the only money we spent! The table cloth that you’ll see in the pictures was also left over from a previous party!
It wasn’t as extravagant as her first birthday party but it was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper and perfect for the amount of people we had! It was such a fun night celebrating our little girl and getting to see her play with all her cousins! The amount of love for her was overwhelming and awe inspiring!
Take a look at the photos below! Tell me if you’re with me (parties every year) or my husband (parties only on the “big” birthdays) and WHY, in the comments!
Much Love, R

Party every year!! It’s their one special day that belongs to them! You get to celebrate him/her, make them feel special. My birthday is 10 days before Christmas, I always had a party, maybe only family members, and sometimes, after I was in school, I also had a kid party. You don’t have to go all out every year, go bigger on the birthdays that Stewie says are the big ones, keep it smaller for all the others.
