It’s a new year which means about 188.9 million adults in America made a resolution for 2021! Sadly, about 12% (that’s 23.1 million) don’t think their resolution is attainable so by mid February they’ll quit trying.
My question, to you, is are you part of the 12%?
I use to be. I would have a resolution (almost alway to get skinny) and I’d kick off the year doing great and then, when I got lazy or wasn’t seeing the results I wanted, I’d quit. The truth is i seem to always quit things or jump to something else. I’ve tried just about every diet fad (Visalia, Beachbody shakes, apple cider vinegar, etc) and gave up on each. I’m not saying these things don’t work for certain people, I am saying they didn’t work for me and the longevity of the results are, in my opinion, questionable.
This year I changed the narrative (mostly due to Erica Lugo). I decided one of my goals for 2021 is to get healthy, not skinny. I refuse to tell myself I “can’t” have something. When I use words like that to myself it becomes something I must have because I “can’t” have it. So instead, when I decide not to eat a sweet or drink a soda it’s not because I can’t have that thing it’s because I’m making a choice to either fuel my body with something else or because I simply don’t want it.
I know simply changing the way I think and speak about things will not make this any easier than all the other years so I put things in place to keep me motivated. I made a vision board and hung it in our room so I will see it every morning before I really start my day, I work out in front of our kids, and I tell everyone about my goal. By telling people it holds me accountable to those people. When they ask me how it’s going I don’t want to tell them that I quit…again. I think these are all great things to keep me motivated but the best is working out in front of our kids. They see me and they mimic me. They know it’s something I do everyday and they want to do it too.
If I had to be honest with someone and tell them that I quit again or I stopped teaching our kids to be strong healthy individuals I’d be so ashamed of myself. So this time, I won’t stop until I can be proud of myself. I won’t stop at all. I may get to a point where I don’t work out 6 days a week but I will not stop working out or making better eating choices to fuel my body.
Of course, this doesn’t just apply to getting healthy. This mindset change can be applied to any goal you’ve set for yourself! If your goal is to write but you stopped, or your goal is to organize your home but you got overwhelmed and stopped, or any goal that you’ve quit remember why you made that goal. Does doing that thing make you happy? Are you saying that you HAVE to do that thing? Change the narrative. Stop saying you have to do it and start saying you GET to. You get to write because you have that gift, you get to organize because your family is so blessed with things that they all need a place to go.
Let me know what one of your goals is for 2021! Then change the narrative.
Much Love, R

Yes, yes! I decided the same-I will not quit this year! This was my first adventure (my blog) and I will not stop until my writing is out there somehow! Good luck to you Rachel, we can do this!
