We took a trip

When I say we took a trip I mean we TOOK A TRIP. My husband and I decided to take 16 days and drive from California to North Carolina. As you can see we have two small children, if you’re a parent I am sure just reading what we did gave you some impending sense of doom.

Honestly, our trip wasn’t as crazy as I had anticipated it to be. We took snacks, movies, toys, and an ice chest with drinks the day we left and when we came back home, to my surprise, most of the toys, snacks, and movies had remained untouched. Don’t get me wrong, there were many snacks consumed and I think we watched the Disney movie Coco about 1,500 times.

I definitely enjoyed getting to see states I’d never stepped foot in (Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida) and was lucky enough to revisit some I hadn’t been in for years (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Georgia). It was amazing to say the least.

Some of the more memorable moments consist of seeing the beautiful red rock formations that my husband loves that reside in New Mexico, an amazingly beautiful thunder and lightening storm in Texas, the rolling hills of Alabama, a super cute drive thru safari in Georgia, and The French Quarter in New Orleans! We got to experience so many things in the 16 days that we were gone and see our children’s faces light up countless times. I wouldn’t trade that trip for anything but there is one major thing I would change (aside from getting rid of covid).I would have made it last longer.

16 days sounds like a lot but when you have to cover about 5,000 miles in car it doesn’t leave much time for sight seeing. In fact, we didn’t spend two nights in a row in the same hotel the entire time we were gone. We only stayed two nights in a row in the same state once (one night in Orange, Texas and the next night in Fort Worth, Texas)! Luckily for us, most hotels have a washer and dryer you are able to use and near by places to eat so we always had clean clothes and food. Unfortunately, those places to eat are generally fast food, 16 days of almost nothing but fast food will definitely make you not want fast food for a very long time haha!

Overall, it was fun and it was amazing to have my husband to us (aside from a few work calls) for over 2 weeks! We’ve already decided that we’ll split the remaining states in half and do a trip similar to this two more times in this life and I can’t wait!

Much Love, R
